Progress with Organ Repairs at St Peter & St Paul’s Church, Eckington
I am pleased to report that we have raised a substantial amount towards our Organ and Roof fund. The balance raised now stands at around £17,000. A considerable proportion of this has come from within the local community and we are extremely grateful for the way in which the people of Eckington and surrounding areas have responded to our financial plight. We are still a long way from reaching our eventual goal and strenuous efforts are being made to grant providing bodies to realise our goal.
I’m sure many of you will have attended services in the church over this Christmas period and will have heard our organ playing again. This is thanks to our Organ Builder and our organist, Kieran Fallon. The Organ Builder has managed to make temporary repairs that mean that the organ can function in about 50% of its full capacity. This coupled with the skill of our organist, Kieran, means that we have heard the organ playing again over this period but not in its full majesty. Indeed almost half the stops are unavailable most of the bottom octave is blocked off and Kieran is unable to use the swell, which normally gives the organ its distinctive volume.
However we are grateful to Kieran and our Organ Builder for allowing us to again hear our organ over the Christmas period, even if it was not in its full majesty. We look forward to the day when we will again listen to the full potential of this magnificent instrument.
